B is the sensory neurone carrying the message towards the spinal cord from the sensory nerve ending. It is sometimes called the afferent cell. The cell body of the nerve cell is shown in the diagram to sit outside the nerve cord, in a location called the dorsal root ganglion ('ganglion' means 'swelling'), while the other end of the sensory nerve cell synapses with an intermediate nerve cell in the spinal cord.
